Using ChatGPT for OET Writing Feedback (Without Trusting the Score)

Use AI tools to spot missing purpose, buried asks, and informal tone. Do not treat an AI grade as an official OET score — or even as a reliable practice band. Rewrite yourself, then submit a letter for trainer review on OET Practice. We are independent and not affiliated with OET; practice bands (A–E) are learning feedback only.

Good prompts

  • “Is the purpose clear in the first sentence? Quote it.”
  • “List facts that do not change what the reader should do.”
  • “Flag contractions or informal phrases.”
  • “Suggest a clearer closing request in one sentence.”

What not to do

  • Do not paste an AI score into your study plan as truth.
  • Do not ask the model to “mark like OET” and stop there.
  • Do not submit AI-written letters unchanged — you need the skill on test day.
Human trainers still matter for Writing and Speaking. AI is a draft checker, not an examiner.

Next step

Submit a letter in Writing practice after your AI pass. Technique: Writing guide.
