You read a task and case notes, then write a letter that gives another professional what they need to continue the patient's care. Our OET Writing guide walks through the task with an annotated model letter.
How Writing practice works
| Step | What happens |

| Choose | Open a test in the exam library, start the Writing sub-test and choose your profession. |
| Read (5 minutes) | Read the task and case notes. Typing is locked, as in the real test. |
| Write (40 minutes) | Type your letter. The live word count shows your length as you go. |
| Submit | Submit your letter when you finish. |
If you need to stop, use Save & Exit and finish later. If you leave a test unfinished, we send you one reminder.
Your feedback
Writing and Speaking get AI-assisted feedback, reviewed by our team. You get a practice grade (A–E) and written feedback, and we email you when it is ready. Open the result from your dashboard to read your letter next to the feedback.
Tasks for your profession
Writing tasks are available for all 12 OET professions: medicine, nursing, dentistry, dietetics, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, radiology, occupational therapy, veterinary science, optometry and speech pathology. Choose your profession each time you start, so you practise the kind of letter you will write in the real test.

Rewrite the weakest paragraph, often the opening or the request, using the feedback.
