How Long to Prepare for OET (By English Baseline)
Prep time depends on your starting English and which skills lag — not on a single magic number of days. Candidates with strong clinical English may need short, focused format practice; others need weeks on Writing purpose or Speaking clinical communication. OET Practice is independent and not affiliated with OET. Practice bands are feedback, not official scores.
Rough planning bands
- Strong baseline, format gaps: days to about two weeks of timed mocks and error logging.
- Good English, weak Writing/Speaking criteria: two to six weeks of criteria-focused practice plus trainer feedback.
- Broader language gaps: longer runway with vocabulary, listening stamina, and letter structure — then full mocks.
Play the format, not random study
- Diagnostic full or multi-skill mock.
- Log recurring mistakes.
- Drill the weakest skill with official criteria in mind.
- Recalibrate with official samples near test day.
Next step
Start in the exam library, then use the error-tracking study plan.
